Your desert trip begins early in the morning, when our driver picks you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. As we leave the city behind, the Road snakes up through the High Atlas Mountains, past lovely Berber settlements and snow-capped peaks that emerge in the distance during the winter months.
We make stops along the excursion at panoramic vistas to stretch your legs and take in the stunning landscapes. The first important destination is the Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco's most recognized attractions. Aït Ben Haddou, known for its earthen architecture and centuries-old charm, has appeared in various Hollywood films and TV series, including Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy. You'll have time to wander through its small alleys, explore the historic granary, and take the pictures from the hilltop that overlooks the kasbah.
We proceed through the famous town of Ouarzazate, sometimes referred to as "the gateway to the desert," after lunch (which is not included). Before moving farther into the southern lowlands, we might make a brief halt near Atlas Film Studios or the Taourirt Kasbah, depending on time.
The landscape changes into a network of meandering gorges and verdant palm groves as we get closer to the Dades Valley. A traditional Moroccan meal is waiting for you when you arrive in the late afternoon and settle into your quaint riad or guesthouse.
Savor a magical evening and get some rest in preparation for tomorrow's journey.
🏠 Spend the night at a guesthouse or riad in Dades Valley
Dinner is one of the meals included.
After breakfast, we proceed into the Dades Valley, passing the spectacular rock formations known as the "Monkey Fingers" and various traditional riverside communities. We soon arrive at one of Morocco's natural wonders: the Todra Gorge, a spectacular gorge with towering cliffs that rise to 300 meters high. You'll have time to walk down the gorge, take photos, and maybe have a cup of mint tea by the river.
We next drive via Erfoud, a town known for its fossil workshops, before crossing the Ziz Valley, which is surrounded by thousands of date palm trees. By mid-afternoon, the first golden dunes of the Erg Chebbi Desert appear on the horizon, marking the moment you've been waiting for.
Your camel caravan will be ready on the dunes' edge. Mount your camel and ride gently into the heart of the desert as the sun sets, painting the dunes in orange and gold. This wonderful moment is one of Morocco's most memorable experiences.
Upon arriving at your luxury desert camp, you will be invited with mint tea and led to your individual tent. As night falls, a traditional Moroccan dinner is served under the stars, followed by Berber drumming music by the campfire. Relax and stare at the Milky Way in the bright desert sky, a fitting finale to your second day.

This budget shared Marrakech desert tour was one of the best experiences of my Morocco trip. Even though it’s a group tour, everything felt very well-managed and personal. The guides were funny, knowledgeable, and always made sure everyone was comfortable. The van was clean and had air conditioning, which was a big plus during the drive.
The desert camp in Merzouga was absolutely beautiful — far better than I expected for a shared tour! The dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the entertainment after dinner was so lively and fun. Watching the sunrise over the dunes on our last morning was pure magic. If you’re looking for a shared Morocco desert trip that’s both affordable and high quality, this is the one!

I joined this Marrakech to Merzouga group tour as a solo traveler, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment I was picked up, I felt safe and included. The group size (around 15 people) was perfect — small enough to make friends but big enough to feel social.
The itinerary was perfectly balanced between sightseeing, driving, and relaxation. Our stop at the Todra Gorges was incredible, and the guides shared lots of local stories along the way. The Sahara desert tour 3 days felt like a dream — riding camels, sleeping under the stars, and waking up to a golden sunrise. I’ll never forget the peaceful silence of the desert night. Highly recommend this to other solo travelers looking for adventure and connection!
