Your desert journey starts early in the morning when our driver picks you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. As we leave the hustle of the city behind, the road winds upward through the High Atlas Mountains, where picturesque Berber villages dot the hillsides, and snow-capped peaks rise in the distance during the winter months.
We stop along the way at panoramic viewpoints to stretch your legs and admire the dramatic landscapes. Our first major stop is the Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most famous landmarks. Known for its earthen architecture and centuries-old charm, Aït Ben Haddou has appeared in numerous Hollywood films and TV series such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy. You’ll have time to walk through its narrow alleys, visit the old granary, and take photos from the hilltop overlooking the kasbah.
After lunch (not included), we continue through the cinematic town of Ouarzazate, often called “the gateway to the desert.” Depending on time, we may make a quick stop near Atlas Film Studios or the Taourirt Kasbah, before heading deeper into the southern valleys.
As we approach the Dades Valley, the scenery transforms into a series of winding canyons and lush palm groves. Arrive in the late afternoon and settle into your charming guesthouse or riad, where a traditional Moroccan dinner awaits.
Enjoy a warm evening and rest up for tomorrow’s adventure.
🏠 Overnight: Guesthouse/Riad in Dades Valley
🍽️ Meals Included: Dinner
After breakfast, we continue through the Dades Valley, passing the striking rock formations known as the “Monkey Fingers” and several traditional villages built along the riverbanks. Soon, we reach one of Morocco’s natural wonders — the Todra Gorge, a breathtaking canyon with towering cliffs reaching up to 300 meters high. You’ll have time to walk through the gorge, take photos, and perhaps enjoy a cup of mint tea near the river.
We then drive through Erfoud, a town famous for its fossil workshops, and cross the Ziz Valley, lined with thousands of date palms. By mid-afternoon, the first golden dunes of the Erg Chebbi Desert appear on the horizon — the moment you’ve been waiting for.
At the edge of the dunes, your camel caravan will be ready. Mount your camel and ride gently into the heart of the desert as the sun begins to set, painting the dunes with shades of orange and gold. This unforgettable moment is one of Morocco’s most iconic experiences.
Upon arrival at your luxury desert camp, you’ll be welcomed with mint tea and shown to your private tent. As night falls, a traditional Moroccan dinner is served under the stars, followed by Berber drumming music around the campfire. Relax and gaze at the Milky Way in the clear desert sky — a perfect end to your second day.

This budget shared Marrakech desert tour was one of the best experiences of my Morocco trip. Even though it’s a group tour, everything felt very well-managed and personal. The guides were funny, knowledgeable, and always made sure everyone was comfortable. The van was clean and had air conditioning, which was a big plus during the drive.
The desert camp in Merzouga was absolutely beautiful — far better than I expected for a shared tour! The dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the entertainment after dinner was so lively and fun. Watching the sunrise over the dunes on our last morning was pure magic. If you’re looking for a shared Morocco desert trip that’s both affordable and high quality, this is the one!

I joined this Marrakech to Merzouga group tour as a solo traveler, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment I was picked up, I felt safe and included. The group size (around 15 people) was perfect — small enough to make friends but big enough to feel social.
The itinerary was perfectly balanced between sightseeing, driving, and relaxation. Our stop at the Todra Gorges was incredible, and the guides shared lots of local stories along the way. The Sahara desert tour 3 days felt like a dream — riding camels, sleeping under the stars, and waking up to a golden sunrise. I’ll never forget the peaceful silence of the desert night. Highly recommend this to other solo travelers looking for adventure and connection!
